Frequently Asked
Questions
What should I expect at my first massage session?
When visiting the office for the first time, you should plan on adding an extra
thirty minutes to your session for the purposes of filling out a thorough Health
History Form and discussing what treatment will best suit your needs. This extra
acquaintance time is included in your first visit.
Upon discussing your treatment needs for the session, Tanya will then leave the
room so that you may undress in privacy. Many people are very comfortable wearing
nothing during their first massage session, as they are completely covered with
a clean drape. Some people choose to leave their underwear or panties on and others
feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit or shorts. The main goal is to allow your
therapist to access the skin and musculature that is in need of work and for you
to feel comfortable, safe and secure throughout your treatment session.
You will always be properly draped with a clean sheet and warm blanket (if you wish)
and your modesty will always be preserved. During the massage, only the body part
being worked on will be undraped and private areas will always be covered.
What should I do during my massage?
The primary goal of the massage is to have you RELAX! You really don't need to do
anything---that's the therapist's job. Close your eyes, try to relax your entire
body, listen to the soft music playing in the background and just let go! Tanya
will gently work tight musculature and will carefully lift and move your limbs for
moderate stretches. You can help her by allowing your limbs to go limp or "heavy"
as she holds or moves them.
Can I talk to my therapist during the session?
Absolutely! This is your massage therapy session some people unwind best by chatting!
Others may murmur comments every now and then and others stay silent through most
of the session. Whatever makes you comfortable is just fine. Expect Tanya to check
in with you frequently to make sure you are comfortable and not experiencing any
discomfort. Good communication between client and therapist is necessary to experiencing
an enjoyable massage, so don't hesitate to let Tanya know if massage pressure, room
temperature or music volume is in need of an adjustment.
How long will the session take?
You will have made an appointment with Tanya for a 30-minute, 60-minute or 90-minute
massage session. For your first session, you should plan to add an extra thirty
minutes to your appointment time as you will need to fill out a thorough Health
History Form and discuss your therapy plan with her. Subsequent massage sessions
will be completed in the 30-60- or 90-minute time frame. Your therapist knows your
time is valuable and she will do her utmost to adhere to the appointment time scheduled.
What should I expect after the session?
Your therapist will quietly let you know that the massage session is over and will
leave the room for your privacy. You will be in a very relaxed state, so take your
time getting up from the table. Bottled water and tissues are within easy reach
for your comfort. After you have dressed, Tanya will advise you to continue to drink
water throughout the day to help flush out toxins that have moved from your muscles
to your blood stream during your massage. Take her advice! Your body will thank
you for it! Everyone's reaction to massage is different. Most people feel deeply
relaxed, quiet and peaceful at the end of their massage. Some people feel a boost
of energy as the day goes on. If your treatment required deep tissue work or you
are recovering from an injury, your muscles may feel as though they've been through
a workout at the gym! This is a natural reaction and is in part due to the lactic
acid that has built up in the tight muscles and the physical "workout" your therapist
has given the muscle to reduce tension and introduce fresh blood and nutrients to
the tissue
If you find you have questions or concerns about your massage session, contact your
therapist, she's there for you!
